Tinseltown (Los
Angeles), host of the annual E3 Expo, has become a funky playground for
celebrity endorsements for not-yet-released video game consoles and
video games. Actors and models have been attending promo parties where
they have received new video games and consoles inside free gift bags.
Console makers hope that the celebrities will discuss their new
products on the events’ red carpet or during other interviews on TV and
in print (also online). Hey, dude, where’s my gift bag?
RACING GAMES:
Some players prefer racing games with more realistic physics - others
enjoy fantasy physics in which their cars can zoom up to 200 mph yet
still survive a collision with a building or a van filled with clowns.
The more realistic games often insert real models of cars - racing them
is like taking a virtual test drive. In these games, players also can
modify their vehicles with actual OEM or aftermarket upgrades such as a
carbon driveshaft, turbo drives, superchargers, racing chips, racing
transmissions, high-compression mufflers, spoilers, racing-level
suspension equipment, lightweight auto bodies, drilled foot pedals,
racing wheels, tires and brakes, and fuel enhancers.
RPG:
Role-playing games are very popular and available in a wide range of
playing difficulty, mature content, and themes. Children’s RPG games
can take young players to fantasy lands filled with magic and fairies.
Mature RPG games usually pit players against human and monstrous
opponents derived from old European and Asian fantasy literature.
Depending on the RPG game design, players may choose between several
different game types: 1) prep strategy (deciding how to equip one’s
self and his/her companions with various weapons, armor, spells,
potions, and food) 2) fighting strategy (employing methods for attacks,
defenses, counter-attacks, spells, incantations, cures, other) 3)
fighting combat (less strategy, more hand-to-eye coordination as a
player focuses on actually attacking an opponent onscreen).
